Higher incomes and safe jobs for victims of the armed conflict in Colombia
The 50 year long violent conflict has left many rural areas in Colombia underdeveloped, resulting in a severe lack of jobs and formalized employment for the population. 88% of rural employment is informal with wages way below the national average.
Pomario trains and employs smallholders from the conflict regions in the cultivation of baby vegetables and edible flowers, which yield a higher margin than traditional agricultural products. They provide formalized employment will full social benefits and education opportunities. They work with gourmet restaurants and chefs across Colombia.
Smallholders can increase their income by up to 110% than the average in the rural areas. They are already providing formalized employment to 30 farmers in Colombia with social benefits, safety training and dedicate time to dedicate themselves.
YSB is supporting the company to prepare their expansion from Medellin to Bogota.
