Agriculture & Livelihoods
1 - No Poverty

The challenge

Smallholder coffee farmers typically sell to middlemen and receive only 20% – 30% of the final consumer price. Most of the coffee grown in Colombia can be considered ‘speciality’, due to the type of soil and different heights, but farmers lack the knowledge to differentiate the quality of the coffee. This results in high-quality speciality coffee frequently being undervalued.

The innovation

Clearpath Coffee aims to improve the lives of smallholder coffee farmers with:

  • Market infrastructure through a co-exporting model that involves farmers as partners in all transactions.
  • Trainings on new methods to cultivate and process coffee.

The impact

Clearpath is one of the first companies in Colombia to adopt a co-exporting model. The farmers receive 80% more income than selling to a middleman.
