Clean water for 1 million children in Uganda
Over 440 children die every week from waterborne diseases in Uganda, as they don’t have access to clean water at home or school. For the children of Motherland Academy in Kampala, falling sick with diarrhea or typhoid from contaminated water was a regular occurrence. It meant that missing school was just part of everyday life.
Impact Water aims to change this reality through their simple UV-based water purification systems. The social business sells, installs and maintains the environmentally-friendly systems to schools on low cost, multi-year credit terms. The installation of every filter also offsets CO2 emissions as schools avoid burning firewood to boil water.
Impact to Date
Impact Water already serves over 2,400 schools in Uganda and provides clean drinking water to more than 1,400,000 children. The model is so successful that they have expanded to Kenya & Nigeria, reaching nearly 3,000,000 children in total.
