The fragmentation of Uganda’s agricultural supply chain is the leading cause for counterfeit inputs and middle men who undercut farmer produce prices. The agriculture market in Uganda is suffering from insufficient development and communication, insufficient grading and poor post harvest handling.

How does the social business solve this problem?

Akorion with its network of 400+ village agents partners with Agricultural Centers for Excellence. Together, they ensure that smallholder farmers receive and use proper inputs, receive training on how to improve agricultural practices and that they are linked directly to both local and export buyers.

How does the social business generate revenue?

The social business distributes certified agricultural inputs on behalf of input companies. It also gets paid by local and export buyers  for linking them to the farmers produce and also. Development organizations pay for the use of small holder farmer information which is collected by the social business.
