The Context

Yunus Social Business is a philanthropic fund for social businesses and a venture builder for corporate social innovation.

We believe that by harnessing the power of business, we can solve social problems in a sustainable way. Co-Founded by Peace Nobel Laureate Prof. Muhammad Yunus, we finance and support exceptional entrepreneurs tackling crucial issues in areas like healthcare, education, safe water or clean energy in developing countries.

This includes entrepreneurs within companies (social intrapreneurs) who are leveraging their company’s assets and resources to develop social business solutions. Our joint ventures and new ventures with corporates address some of the most pressing social and environmental challenges we are facing.

Today, our social businesses already serve over 5 million people in emerging and developing countries. We are currently a global team of 60 people with experience in entrepreneurship, consulting, venture capital, business incubation, finance and international development. YSB is headquartered in Berlin and we have an on-the-ground presence through our local country teams in the Balkans, Haiti, Brazil, Colombia, Tunisia, India, and Uganda.

We are looking for a freelance consultant that will assist one of our corporate social innovation ventures in implementing a plastic recycling social business (LDPE) in Bangalore, India. The position is based in Bangalore.

Your Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

For 9 months, you will get the chance to work on the concrete incubation and implementation of this plastic recycling project which leads to the implementation of a social business with one of our corporate clients.

As a Consultant, your responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

●        Support in the legal registration of the Social Business in India – Liaise with corporate law firm, assist in the preparation of the legal documentation, secure permits and licenses

●        Finalize partnership agreements and contracts with key Stakeholders

●        Support in selection of location for the establishment of the Social Business’s operations in Bangalore

●        Help in Identifying, evaluating and hiring quality candidates for various positions at the Social Business

●        Oversee and support the team during construction of a plastic recycling factory from conception to completion

●        Set up a process to track key metrics to monitor the progress made by the Social Business on the goals around social, environmental and financial returns

●        Attend conferences, meetings, and industry events in the sphere of plastic recycling

●        You will report to the project manager at Yunus Social Business team and the Founders of the YSB India Fund

●        Think strategically - see the bigger picture and set aims and objectives in order to continuously develop and improve the Social Business

Your Background and Experience

●        Bachelor in management, entrepreneurship, sustainable development, engineering, environment. or related field

●        4+ years’ experience in relevant positions

●        Outstanding knowledge and understanding of the waste management sector in India

●        Knowledge of the challenges associated to the launch, development and management of businesses in developing countries and emerging markets

●        International business experience

●        Fluency in English

●        Hindi or Kannada are desirable but not mandatory

●        Entrepreneurial experience and acumen as well as a “hustler’s” attitude

●        An excellent communicator with interpersonal skills

●        Strong understanding of social business and Bottom of Pyramid development

●        Agility, teamwork, empathy and collaborative leadership

●        Understand business process and priorities as well as sustainability imperatives

●        Strong analytical abilities, both quantitative and qualitative

 

Your Personal Qualities

●        A “start-up” person at heart but have the ability to understand and navigate corporate hierarchies and processes- you must be able to bring “start-up” into corporate India

●        Imaginative and curious- you are constantly tracking trends and developments in the startup and social enterprise ecosystem

●        A self-starter and take initiative beyond your role description

●        Able to create order out of ambiguity and uncertainty

●        A team player

●        A person with a strong moral compass and deep empathy
