Your Role & Tasks

The Reckitt “Fight for Access” accelerator program in South Africa is a new accelerator focusing on supporting social businesses and entrepreneurs by providing solutions to enable access to WASH in the country. The program starts in September 2022 and will last until February 2023. The application period is expected to start in July and the selection of the entrepreneurs who will be part of the program will take place by the end of August. A parallel program is taking place in Brazil.

The Program Manager (PM) brings in entrepreneurial expertise, a network to guide mentors and startups as well as experience in running entrepreneurship programs or events. It is expected to active involvement in stakeholder sourcing and management throughout the program. While the Head of Accelerator is responsible for the overall program structure, the PM takes the lead in operations and mentor sourcing, onboarding, and coaching during the program.

Core tasks include :

  • Contributing to the structure of the Accelerator Program
  • Selecting, onboarding start-up, and follow-up during the program
  • Conducting needs analysis of the startups along with the HoA
  • Leading sourcing mentors for specific startups under the leadership of HoA, facilitating and managing the network of mentors for the program: invitations, onboarding, participation in program weeks, and data collection
  • Tracking startup progress throughout the program,  reporting on the needs of the ventures accelerated
  • Supporting in the design and facilitation of activities and workshops; leading workshops and mentoring sessions while being supported by HoA
  • Coordinating communication with the partners of the program
  • Allocating and matching mentors to the startups
  • Helping startups make the most use of mentoring sessions by providing context and own experience
  • Offering access to their network for participating startups
  • Supporting the HoA in managing and building relationships with the partners of the program

This is a Freelancer position. In this capacity, the PM needs to be involved in the program for 50/100% of their time from August 2022 to February 2023. The program in question is a hybrid program with both in-person and remote sessions in South Africa during 4Q2022 and 1Q2023.

The PM is expected to help startups with strategic direction following the program weeks and put perspective on the plethora of input they have received during mentoring sessions. In their capacity, the PM interacts with the startups via Slack, Email, or other means of communication on an ad-hoc basis.

What you bring to the table

  • Background in Economics, Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, or relating areas
  • Solid experience in innovation, startup work, impact investing, impact sector, or other related areas
  • A proven track record in running accelerator programs or other startup support programs
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects at once, respond to tight timelines, pay attention to detail, and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Passion for social business and the ventures we invest in
  • Experience in the South African market is a must
  • Fluent in English, also fluent in local languages preferred
