Kairouan governorate is disproportionally exposed and vulnerable to poverty (3 times national average) and unemployment is prevalent, especially for women. The majority of available employment opportunities are agricultural, low-paying and seasonal, providing unstable and unsecure sources of income to the local labor force.

BioPam, located 30 kilometers South of Kairouan, seeks to provide sources of stable and higher-than- average income for its female workers and outgrowers by developing an organic herb value chain of production in the region in order to meet the growing international demand for organic dried herbs.
How does the social business generate revenue?
BioPam will manage the planting and harvesting of fresh organic herbs to sell to its parent company that dries and exports organic herbs for export mainly to Europe, the U.S. and Japan.
