“The Government will do everything to support Yunus Social Business Albania in its endeavor to develop social businesses that generate employment and improve citizens’ lives.”

“Social Business is a great opportunity for rural smallholders.”

BUSINESSMAN, PRESIDENT OF SOMMELIERS ASSOCIATION AND SOCIAL BUSINESS ENTREPRENEUR
YSB launched the ‘Social Business Movement of Albania’ in April 2012.
With a local team in Tirana, the YSB Albania Incubator is busy raising awareness for Social Business as well as identifying and developing the first social businesses across the country. YSB Albania has organized a nationwide Social Business Plan Competition in partnership with NBS, AIDA (Albanian Investment Development Agency) as well as with UNDP and UNWomen. The best business plans have received seed financing and support from the YSB incubator and coaching from Deutsche Bank and International Commerce Bank.
Meanwhile, we have built up a Social Business Fund (Yunus Social Business Fund Albania) and are now making the first social business investments: “Rozafa”, a handcrafts marketing company working with more than 100 rural women, “E Jona”, a coffee-bar and social centre targeting integration of more than 300 disabled persons in Tirana; and “Seniors’ House” an elderly care centre to prove residence care, daily care and home care services to more than 250 elderly persons. We are actively looking for more investors for this fund.
The Government of Albania is a big supporter of the initiative through the ‘Ministry of Social Welfare and Youth’ and the public ‘Agency for the Promotion of Social Business (NBS)’, created to accompany and facilitate the expansion of the Social Business Movement across Albania.
A Message from our Country Director, Shkelzen Marku
Despite Albania’s significant progress during the last 15 years, it still faces many social issues, especially in rural and suburban areas. This makes it one of the most potent places for Social Business to achieve significant impact. By establishing Social Business in Albania, we primarily aim to generate employment and to raise the incomes of the rural and suburban poor — with particular focus on women, elderly and youth — as well as to provide affordable services, such as home nursing care and vocational training, in a financially sustainable way.

ARE YOU A SOCIAL BUSINESS ENTREPRENEUR?
Yunus Social Business welcomes Social Business entrepreneurs with business plans (or business concepts) that address social problems in Albania.
We also welcome those with an interest in solving Albania’s problems but with no specific business idea. For each Social Business concept, we follow a strict process from initial review until funding, which requires intense cooperation between YSB and the prospective Social Business entrepreneur.
If the entrepreneur submits a well-thought-through business plan, and all required paperwork is available, the process from initial contact to funding takes approximately 3 months.
To get in contact with the team in Albania, please write to email@example.com.
