Designing for Impact Training for Impact Enterprise Managers

The African Management Initiative (AMI) in partnership with Yunus Social Business (YSB) are offering up to 50 scholarships to attend a 1-day Designing for Impact training workshop for Social Impact Entrepreneurs/Managers, supported by the Rockefeller Foundation.

The training will help social entrepreneurs and managers at social enterprises to identify and design ideas to tackle social challenges and problems in their communities.

It will cover three main areas:

·        Understanding the Problem,

·        Designing the Solution and

·        Implementing the Strategy.

The training will be held on Thursday, 18th September 2014 at the Fairway Hotel in Kampala, Uganda from 8.00am-5.00pm.

AMI and YSB have partnered with the Rockefeller Foundation to offer scholarships to promising social entrepreneurs for this prestigious training event. Successful candidates will pay a token fee of only 20,000 Ugandan Shillings (compared to the standard cost of 150,000 Ugandan shillings for AMI workshops), which includes the day-long course, access to quizzes and extra educational content online, lunch and refreshments.

Discounted membership to AMI will also be available to successful candidates at $25 for 12 months (normally $75). AMI works with Africa’s most prestigious business schools to provide world-class learning and development tools to managers and entrepreneurs across Africa, both online and offline. How to apply

To apply for a scholarship, interested entrepreneurs should submit a concept not exceeding one page to uganda@yunussb.com explaining how their business ventures/ideas meet the following criteria:

·        intentionally seeks to grow to sustain financial viability

·        realizes social impact

·        influences the broader system in which they operate

About the Course

Developed in conjunction with the Nairobi-based Amani Institute for social change, and supported by Rockefeller Foundation, this course helps social entrepreneurs work with local communities to design solutions that solve real problems.

Core topics and Objectives

·         1. Understanding the Problem

At the end of this unit, you will able to understand the true nature of the problem through root cause analysis

·         2. The Solution

At the end of this unit, you should be able to generate solutions within this context of deep community understanding.

·         3. The Strategy

At the end of this unit, you should be able to prepare a strategy on how to implement the solution
